Alliance vs Horde Factions in World of Warcraft - The Differences

Published on by makro

The two major political factions in World of Warcraft are the Alliance and Horde. Let's look at the differences between the two and decide on the Alliance vs Horde Faction dilemma.

The Horde is generally led by outsiders who have survived obstacles are bound to one another through this common experience of fighting together, camaraderie and ally opposition. Since the beginning of the game, much of the ideals, policies and beliefs have been amended and some guidelines have changed. However, it is still the same faction that was inherited by Thrall through the Warchief Orgrim Doomhammer.

There are major races within the Horde faction that come from differing regions. The orcs of Durotar, for example, are those that survived the first, second and third wars and were thus released from internement to seek out their Kalimdor destiny. They are led by Warchief Thrall and have fellow leader Garrosh Hellscream, Varok Saurfang and Drek'Thar.

The trolls of the Darkspear tribe originated from the Great Sea. They joined the Horde faction after being saved by the orcs. They generally use raptors and bats for riding.

The tauren of Mulgore are a noble race and are native to Kalimdor. It was here that they allied with the orcs by offering spiritual guidance. They are represented by Cairne Bloodhoof and use kodo beasts.

The undead of Lordaeron have a long-standing alliance with the Horde. They were released from Lich King control and include forsaken alchemists who were attempting to create a plague focused to destroy other life forms. They are known for riding skeletal horses.

Other races of the Horde include the blood elves of Quel'Thalas and the goblins of Bilgewater Cartel.

There is a very uneasy truce between the Horde and the Alliance, especially after the Third War. The Horde views themselves as rogue warriors as they fight for a land they feel hates them. They are usually referred to as the forsaken but during times of war, it is not unusually for prominent leaders to be allied with higher levels of the Alliance.

The Alliance, also known as Grand Alliance, is the other major political faction among the mortal races. This group is composed of powerful cultures and people banded by their philosophies of nobility and honor rather than desperation and rejection.

There are several major members of this faction beginning with the humans of Stormwind. Stormwind is a powerful state with a strong naval fleet and has affiliated strongholds with other neighboring human towns. The dwarves of Khaz Modan consists of dwarves who allied following the invasion of their land. They generally use rams as their mounts that tend to live high in the Khaz Modan mountains. The gnomes of Gnomeregan are cousins of the dwarves and are also part of the Alliance. Other members include the night elves of Darnassus, the draenei of the Exodar, and the worgen of Gilneas.

The unstable truth that exists between these two factions is rooted deep in history. Many battles were fought between different races and therefore some tensions are more prominent between certain groups than others are.

The Horde and the Alliance both have their philosophies and histories that are results of political and racial divide. Depending on your philosophy, either one of the major political factions can be your party of choice.
